US and France: Security Council must decide on Iran missile test

The IRGC's ballistic missile tests in various parts of Iran have sparked reactions from the United States and France. The two countries say that if the news of the tests of missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads is confirmed, the Security Council should decide on the matter.

The United States, in response to the news of the Islamic Republic's ballistic missile tests on Saturday, March 8, announced that if these tests are confirmed, the United Nations Security Council should provide a "proportionate response."

This is the second time that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has conducted a missile test since the JCPOA nuclear agreement.

US State Department spokesman Mark Tanner said the United States will closely monitor the news of multiple ballistic missile tests.

Tanner added at the same time that such tests do not constitute a violation of the July 14 nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

However, the US State Department spokesperson stressed: “If the news is confirmed, we will bring this matter to the United Nations Security Council.” He added that the US will ask the Security Council to provide an appropriate response to these tests.

Tanner said that if the news of these tests is credible, the United States will use its tools to counter the threat of Iran's missile program.
