Protests in Shahrekord over water shortage; Water supply to Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari villages is being provided by tanker

Thousands of people in Shahrekord protested on Wednesday, December 23, against water shortages and the performance of the Ministry of Energy managers.
The IRNA news agency, broadcasting images and videos of the crowd of protesters, reported that the protests were held in the "Imamzadegan Halime and Hakime Khatoon Square" in Shahrekord.
This is the second protest rally of the people of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in recent days.
IRNA reported, quoting one of the protesters, that residents of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari will not allow water to be transferred from this province for non-potable uses.
According to experts, the construction of the "rosewater transfer tunnel" to transfer water to Kashan will cause the Zayandeh River in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province to completely dry up.
ILNA news agency also reported, quoting the head of the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Provincial Assembly of Representatives, that water is being supplied to more than 250 villages in the province by mobile tankers.
Hossein Bamiri told ILNA that the government transfers drinking water from the people of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari to Isfahan for agricultural use, and that 70 percent of agriculture is still done traditionally.
Currently, more than 96 percent of the total area of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province is experiencing drought, and this has led to a severe reduction in groundwater in the region.
