Unknown individuals clash with police; Islamabad West Police Chief killed

The head of the Islamabad West Police Department was killed in a clash between unidentified individuals and police forces in the Islamabad West area.

 

On Monday, June 26, Mehr News Agency quoted the police commander of West Islamabad in Kermanshah Province as saying that an "armed clash" had occurred in the neighborhood of Shahrak Jihad, West Islamabad, and wrote that "as a result of this armed clash between unknown individuals" and police forces located around the mosque in Shahrak Jihad, West Islamabad, the head of the city's intelligence police was killed.

Mohammad Reza Amoyee, the deputy social officer of the Kermanshah provincial police command, also explained to ISNA that on Sunday night, a team of intelligence police detectives led by Korosh Haji Moradi were patrolling to ensure security when they became suspicious of a vehicle. When they tried to stop the vehicle, its occupants opened fire on the officers' vehicle, resulting in Captain Haji Moradi being injured and dying after being taken to a medical facility.

It is not yet clear who started the clash, but the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the parliament has said that "the area where the armed clash took place in West Islamabad is under control."

Falahat Pisheh said that police officers engaged unknown individuals on suspicion of being terrorists.
