A Tehran Newspaper: The Waiting Time to Buy a Home in the Capital is “One Century”

The newspaper “Donya-ye Eqtesad” (World of Economics), published in Tehran, reported on Monday, February 16 [on the Persian calendar], in a report calculating various indices for the waiting time to purchase a home, that buying a house in the capital through savings takes 109 years.

This report calculated its results based on the average price of a one-hundred-square-meter house relative to one-third of a household’s annual income.

The Statistical Center of Iran also reported in December of this year, in a comparison of land prices over previous years, about a thousandfold increase in the price of urban lands in recent years.

According to the Statistical Center of Iran’s announcement, the average price per square meter of land traded in real estate agencies in cities across the country in the summer of 2013 (Persian calendar year 1392) was approximately 670,000 tomans, which over a seven-year period with a growth rate of 982 percent reached more than seven million tomans per square meter in the summer of the current year.
