Explosion and Fire at Mahshahr Special Economic Zone with Two Injured

As a result of a fire at one of the companies based in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone, two people suffered burns. The cause of this incident has not yet been determined. Last month, an apparently intentional fire broke out in the parking lot of another facility in this zone.

According to Iran news sources, on Friday morning, April 2, following an explosion sound, part of the facilities of Kavosh-Garan Company in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone caught fire.

Mehr News Agency, citing Mohsen Adibi, the spokesperson for emergency conditions at the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, says that this fire was completely brought under control approximately one hour after it occurred.

Adibi told Mehr: “In the firefighting operation, emergency teams from other companies based in the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone participated.”

As a result of this incident, two personnel from the operational unit of Kavosh-Garan Bandar Mahshahr Company suffered burns, one of whom has been transferred to the hospital due to the severity of the burns.

According to Mohsen Adibi, the cause of this fire has not yet been determined, and specialists from the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone organization are investigating it.

Mehr News Agency reported from local media that on Friday morning “a tremendous sound was heard at one of the sites in the Bandar Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Zone, and subsequently, smoke from the fire rose into the air”.

An Intentional Fire in the Special Zone

Fires in the Bandar Mahshahr Special Economic Zone are not uncommon. Last month, a large fire broke out in the parking lot of another petrochemical company in this zone, during which 11 vehicles were destroyed.

IRNA reported three days ago, citing Sardar Mohammad Salahi, commander of the Law Enforcement Force in Khuzestan, that the fire in the parking lot of Rah-Avaran Fonoon Petrochemical Company was intentional and was caused by “members of a five-member gang”.

Salahi said that the accused have confessed to involvement in this fire, and “weapons, illegal ammunition and considerable amounts of stolen company property” were found in their hideouts.
