Families of Those Detained on International Workers’ Day Visit Parliament

A group of families of individuals arrested on International Workers’ Day visited the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) holding photos of the detainees and called for their release.

According to a report from the Free Workers’ Union Telegram channel, on Tuesday, May 14, families of those detained on International Workers’ Day, who remain in custody, visited the Islamic Consultative Assembly holding photos of the detainees and signing a letter protesting the continued detention. They called for parliament members to follow up on the matter and demanded the release of the detained individuals.

According to this report, the families of the detainees announced that if their loved ones are not released soon, they will hold a gathering in front of parliament.

The Free Workers’ Union’s report states that the protest letter from the families of the objectors was registered with the Cultural Commission of Parliament, and the Article 90 Commission of Parliament gave assurances that these families would soon be able to meet with the head of the Article 90 Commission and that parliament members would follow up on the detainees’ case.

Almost two weeks after International Workers’ Day, a group of citizens and activists who were arrested during protest gatherings remain in indefinite detention in Evin, Qarchak, and Tehran Bozorg (Fashafuyeh) prisons.

The Workers’ Syndicate, while condemning the detention of all those arrested on International Workers’ Day and Teachers’ Day, has called for the unconditional release of all detainees.

Following these arrests, the U.S. State Department’s Persian-language Twitter page criticized the arrest of Iranian labor activists on International Workers’ Day.

The U.S. State Department said that the Islamic Republic regime, with the money it has spent in Syria, could have paid workers’ wages in Iran.

Earlier, Amnesty International, on International Workers’ Day, issued a statement calling on Islamic Republic officials to immediately release workers and civil activists arrested in strikes and other peaceful protests.
