Floods in Sistan and Baluchestan; Roads Flooded in Khuzestan

Following the floods that occurred a month ago in western and northern Iranian provinces, floods in Sistan and Baluchestan province in eastern Iran on Sunday caused the destruction of a bridge and the evacuation of three villages.

According to IRIB news agency, water currents entering Iran from Afghanistan have been directed toward Lake Hamoun after entering Sistan and Baluchestan.

Meanwhile, the Niatak Bridge, which lies on the Zabol to Hormozgan route, was destroyed early Sunday morning due to the force of flooding, and the Zabol to Hormozgan road was closed.

At the same time, Rouhollah Sargazi, deputy crisis management of Sistan and Baluchestan province’s governorate, announced that three villages in Hormozgan city have been evacuated due to flooding and their residents have been relocated to safe areas.

Concurrently with the flooding in Sistan and Baluchestan province, flooding continues in Khuzestan province.

Meanwhile, floods have submerged sections of the Ahvaz-Khorramshahr highway, the only transportation route connecting the cities of Abadan, Khorramshahr, and Shadegan to Ahvaz, making traffic on this road slow.

Meanwhile, Kourosh Modat, acting governor of Khorramshahr, said that military forces and crisis management headquarters are working to prevent more water from entering this road.

Previously, other roads in these three cities to Ahvaz had been closed due to flooding and water overflow.

The Ahvaz-Abadan road has remained closed since mid-Farvardin due to the overflow of the Karun River and flooding of sections of it.

The old Khorramshahr-Ahvaz road is also closed to vehicles due to water overflow.

There is also the possibility of floods from the overflow of Shadegan Lake entering the Abadan-Mahshahr road.

The overflow of the Karun, Dez, and Karkheh rivers has so far caused flooding in more than 270 villages and over 100,000 hectares of agricultural land in Khuzestan, and approximately 400,000 people have been exposed to the dangers caused by these floods.

On Sunday, the CEO of Iran Railways Company also announced that the southern rail line is closed and on the northern rail line, trains can operate up to Gorgan.

Saeid Rasoli said that after reconstruction of damaged sections, train operations will resume.

Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said on Sunday, the 25th of Farvardin, that 25 provinces and more than 4,400 villages across the country were affected by flooding.

Meanwhile, Alireza Peyvandi, head of the Red Crescent Society, announced that during this period, 450,000 people have been provided relief assistance and 220,000 people have been given emergency shelter.
