According to Hrana News Agency, the news outlet of the Iranian Human Rights Activists’ Association, Somayeh Kargar, a philosophy graduate from the University of Tabriz, was transferred early this week from the interrogation detention of the Revolutionary Guards known as Ward 2A of Evin Prison to Qarchak Prison in Varamin following the completion of interrogation proceedings.

Ms. Kargar, who suffers from a rare eye disease, has been deprived of medical care and access to her medications since her arrest. According to an informed source, Somayeh Kargar was undergoing treatment by eye specialists in France due to this disease, and her last medical visa was issued for November 2020, but due to her arrest, she was unable to complete her treatment process. She, having experienced weight loss and stomach problems during her detention period, is deprived of access to her supplementary medications, and security forces refused to provide her with medications during her detention at the Guards facility; this led to a deterioration of her condition, decreased visual acuity, and increased concern among her family. She has now been transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, which has considerably fewer facilities compared to Evin Prison. Ms. Kargar remains deprived of access to her chosen lawyer.

Ms. Kargar’s mother was pressured to speak in Persian during a visit with her daughter three weeks ago at Evin Prison. Officers had asked her to stop speaking in Kurdish, and she responded: “I cannot express my feelings to my child in any language other than Kurdish.”

Somayeh Kargar was previously arrested on September 16 by security forces at her residence in Tehran and transferred to Evin Prison. Officers conducted a search of this citizen’s home and confiscated some of her personal belongings, including her laptop and mobile phone.

As of the time of this report, there is still no information regarding the reasons for her arrest and the charges against this citizen. However, previously, following the pursuit of inquiries by Ms. Kargar’s family with the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, they were only told that the charges against her relate to internet crimes.

Somayeh Kargar is a philosophy graduate from the University of Tabriz and a Kurdish citizen from Ilam.
