Guardian: Iranians Ignore Stay-at-Home Warnings During Nowruz Holidays

According to Iranian police announcements, Iranian citizens have largely disregarded the government’s request to stay in their homes at the start of the New Year holidays, with more than 1.2 million vehicles heading to the roads for travel.

The Guardian newspaper reported on Friday, the first day of Farvardin, that according to the latest reports, cities and villages in northern Iran along the Caspian Sea coast are witnessing tens of thousands of vehicles attempting to travel to these areas.

The latest figures released on Friday show that 19,644 people in Iran have been infected with the new coronavirus known as “COVID-19” and 1,433 people have died. In the past 24 hours alone, 1,237 new cases and 149 deaths were reported.
