Israel Targets Hezbollah and Iranian-Backed Militia Positions in Damascus

As Syrian state television reported on Thursday evening the repulsion of an aerial attack over Damascus’s airspace, a Syrian monitoring group stated that Israel targeted the positions of Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias in the vicinity of Damascus.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London, said Israel struck weapons facilities and ammunition depots of Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias in Damascus’s suburbs with three missiles, which “caused columns of smoke and fire to rise into the sky.”

Al Arabiya also reported: “These missile strikes targeted the Mezzeh airbase and Jabal Qasyoun in Damascus and areas of Qalamoun between Damascus and Homs, causing severe explosions.”

Syrian media also acknowledged that the sounds of several explosions were heard around Damascus.

In this context, Lebanese media outlets say Israeli fighter jets attacked areas around Damascus from Lebanese airspace.

Images and reports published on social media networks indicate that Israeli fighter jets flew over the southern suburbs of Beirut’s airspace.

On Tuesday, Israel also attacked a Lebanese Hezbollah position and a position belonging to Iranian-backed militias in Quneitra.

Over the past two years, Israel has significantly increased its aerial attacks on targets belonging to Iranian-backed forces in Syria. Israel has repeatedly stated previously that it will not tolerate Iran’s presence on its borders.
