Mysterious Murder of “Farshid Hekki” Civil Activist and Varied Reactions on Social Networks

Social media outlets reported the brutal murder of “Farshid Hekki,” a civil activist, writer, and researcher.

For the first time, “Abdolreza Davari,” one of the supporters of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, wrote on his Twitter page about the details of the murder of this civil activist, stating that he was killed by knife wounds and his body was burned.

However, other reports also suggest that “Farshid Hekki’s” body was mutilated, and some describe the manner of his killing as similar to serial murders.

On the other hand, “Modiri,” one of this civil activist’s colleagues, explained in an audio file about the motives behind the occurrence of this crime as follows: “I cannot find any logical reason for his murder. He was a very balanced person in political and social activities and we never witnessed any provocative behavior from him. Perhaps there was a legal issue or personal animosity involved, but it is strange that he was killed with such brutality near his home with a knife and his body was burned.”

The murder of “Farshid Hekki” generated many reactions in cyberspace, and some users compared his murder to the murder of “Jamal Khashoggi,” the Saudi dissident journalist, and criticized the silence of Iran’s official media regarding this crime.

This civil activist was also a member of the environmental campaign “Zagros Mehrbaan,” a campaign that criticized Iran’s water management policies.

“Hekki’s” murder occurred at a time when several detained environmental activists have been accused of corruption on earth. Now some Twitter users do not consider “Farshid Hekki’s” murder unrelated to his environmental activism.

Political differences are also notable in the face of the news of this civil activist’s murder, to the extent that some describe “Farshid Hekki’s” murder as a pretext for rumor-mongering by media outlets close to “Ahmadinejad.”

Farshid Hekki, in a petition that he published two years ago on one of his social media pages, wrote that since 1988 he had requested more than nine times the official permit to establish the party “Pioneers of Justice and Rights of Iranians” within the framework of the party law and the constitution from the Ministry of Interior and the Commission of Article 10 of Parties, but was never granted such a permit.

In 2016, he also made another attempt to obtain a permit for this party’s activities in the Rouhani government, but was unable to register the party.

“Hekki” also filed a petition three months ago complaining of obvious violations of citizens’ rights, violations of social rights, and the lack of freedom of political and social parties and organizations.
