New Vatican Information on Pope Francis’s Health Status

The Vatican has provided new detailed information regarding Pope Francis’s health status.
Pope Francis, the leader of Catholics worldwide who has been suffering from a respiratory infection for more than a week, was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Italy on February 14.
The Vatican provided further details about his health status today, stating: “Pope Francis has contracted bilateral pneumonia, in which both of his lungs are affected, and this condition has complicated treatment for the 88-year-old pontiff. The Pope’s respiratory infection also includes asthmatic bronchitis, which requires antibiotic and corticosteroid treatment.”
The Vatican also issued a statement saying: “Laboratory tests, chest X-rays, and the clinical condition of the Holy Father continue to present a complex picture. The chest scan that the Holy Father received this afternoon showed the onset of bilateral pneumonia that requires more intensive drug treatment; however, his spirits are good, he is breathing on his own, and he does not require oxygen or a ventilator.”
The Vatican has also canceled all of the Pope’s programs, including the Last Supper and speeches at St. Peter’s Square, for today, Wednesday, February 19.
