Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Health, says that in the past 24 hours, 191 coronavirus patients have died, and the total death toll from coronavirus in Iran has reached 53,816 people.

The statistics released by Iran’s Ministry of Health have repeatedly been questioned by various sources, including officials from Iran’s Medical System Organization, who believe the actual number of coronavirus deaths in Iran is three to four times higher than the figures announced by the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health spokesperson also reported the identification of 6,151 new patients. Accordingly, as of Tuesday, the first day of Dey month, according to Ministry of Health statistics, over 1.1 million people in Iran have been infected with coronavirus.

He also announced that 5,519 coronavirus patients are in “critical condition” and are under special medical care.

Iran’s Ministry of Health officials announced three days ago that no city is in a red alert status regarding coronavirus transmission, and currently 205 cities are in orange status and 243 cities are in yellow status.

The Iranian government typically refrains from providing detailed statistics regarding coronavirus transmission, the number of deaths, or cases in various provinces and cities.
