Pentagon: Iran’s Missile Program Designed to Cause Deadly Harm and Damage

John Kirby, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, stated regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ballistic missile program that the program is designed with offensive aims and for attacks intended to cause deadly harm and damage.

John Kirby said on Wednesday, February 9, during a press conference at the Pentagon about a new announcement by the Islamic Republic regarding a ballistic missile: “I cannot say anything about this matter because I have not yet been informed of its details. I have not seen the missile that Iran is talking about, and you in the media are informed of the news faster than I am.”

The Pentagon spokesperson continued: “To be frank, we know their hostile activities go beyond messaging. These very hostile activities are what make the region insecure, support terrorist groups across the region, they disrupt maritime navigation and shipping, they pursue a ballistic missile program designed for offensive purposes and attacks to inflict harm and damage, including deadly consequences, on other countries, other peoples, and our allies and partners.”

John Kirby said: “We do not consider this a message. This is a threat to regional security for our people, our facilities, and also for our allies’ and partners’ people and facilities.”

Mr. Kirby, in response to another question about the Islamic Republic of Iran’s new missile announcement, without referring to details of Iran’s tested missile, said: “We have continuously witnessed Iran upgrading its ballistic missile program and are seriously aware of what regional dangers that missile program poses. For this reason, we are seriously working with our allies and partners in the region so that we can confront these types of threats and ensure that our allies have the capability to defend themselves.”
