Protest Against Mandatory Hijab in Tehran; Girls of Revolution Street ‘Cannot Be Broken’

Images circulating on social media show yet another girl from Revolution Street in Tehran who placed her headscarf or shawl on a stick to demonstrate her protest against mandatory hijab.
A Twitter user posting two photos of a girl on the street who had placed her black shawl on a stick wrote, “Girls of Revolution Street cannot be broken.”
The time and location of these photos was reported to be Saturday, December 17, at the intersection of Karim Khan and Hafez streets in Tehran.
The identity of this girl remains unknown, and Iran’s official media outlets have not published any reports regarding this civil protest.
Last December, many women placed their headscarves on sticks and stood on electricity poles on streets in Tehran and other cities. Their peaceful protest resulted in a harsh response from the Islamic Republic, and some of these women were sentenced to prison and prolonged deprivations.
The United States says the Iranian regime severely suppresses peaceful protests by its own people.
