Reza Khandan: Australian Prisoner in Iran Has Attempted Suicide Three Times

Reza Khandan, the husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh, an imprisoned lawyer, says that the physical and mental condition of Kylie Moore Gilbert, an Australian prisoner, is not appropriate and she has “attempted suicide three times so far.”
Mr. Khandan wrote on his Facebook page that based on news he has received from Evin Prison, Ms. Moore has been held for an extended period in a security detention facility under solitary confinement conditions and is not allowed to communicate with other prisoners or purchase items from the prison store.
According to Mr. Khandan, none of Ms. Moore’s complaints are being sent out of the security section.
Previously, in December of last year, several of her letters reached British media outlets, in which she expressed her concerns about her condition, lack of money, and the indifference of the Australian government.
She also informed in these letters about the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ proposal to her to spy in exchange for reducing her prison sentence.
Kylie Moore Gilbert, an Islamic studies lecturer at the University of Melbourne in Australia, was detained in Iran in the fall of 2018 and was sentenced to ten years in prison on charges of espionage. The university professor was returning to her country, Australia, when she was arrested at the airport.
Ms. Moore’s case, like many foreign or dual-national prisoners, is classified as a security matter and its details are unclear.
