Ukraine Deems Iran’s Proposed Compensation for Victims Insufficient

It is Iran’s responsibility to pay compensation for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ missile attack on a Ukrainian aircraft. Compensation that, according to experts’ assessment, amounts to approximately 150 million dollars. Ukraine considers Iran’s proposed compensation for Ukrainian victims to be insufficient.

Among the 176 victims of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ air defense missile attack on the Ukrainian aircraft were nine crew members and two other Ukrainian citizens. The Islamic Republic of Iran must pay compensation to the families of the victims. The amount proposed by Iran is considered insufficient by the Ukrainian government.

Reuters news agency, reporting from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has covered statements by Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of the country, regarding the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft.

In an interview with Ukrainian broadcaster “1+1 TV,” Zelensky deemed the Islamic Republic’s proposed compensation for payment to the families of victims of the missile attack by the Revolutionary Guard on the country’s Flight 752 passenger aircraft to be insufficient and demanded higher compensation payments from Iran.

The President of Ukraine stated: “As far as the Iranian side is concerned, they immediately offered us to pay 80 thousand dollars in compensation for each family… This amount is very meager.”

This announcement by the President of Ukraine comes at a time when officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have not yet officially informed about the amount of compensation to the families of the victims.

Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian government is under pressure to seek a higher compensation amount from Iran.

Black Box Investigation

The President of Ukraine also emphasized in his interview with the aforementioned broadcaster that the country is still awaiting the delivery of black boxes from Iranian authorities.

Islamic Republic of Iran officials have made contradictory statements regarding the delivery and examination of the black box data from this passenger aircraft. While some Iranian officials insist on examining the black box data within Iran, others have admitted to lacking the necessary technology to examine the black box data inside Iran.

Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister, had previously announced that the Islamic Republic lacks the necessary technology to do so and that the black box data examination should be carried out by other countries, including France.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has estimated the damages resulting from the Revolutionary Guard’s missile attack on the Ukrainian passenger aircraft to be between 100 to 150 million dollars.
