UN: 150,000 Ukrainian Refugees Entered Neighboring Countries

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says that so far 150,000 Ukrainian refugees have entered neighboring countries.

Filippo Grandi announced on Saturday, March 28, through a tweet that half of the refugees entered Poland and the rest traveled to Moldova, Romania, and Hungary.

Kelly Clements, Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees of the United Nations, also told CNN that according to available information, approximately 850,000 people have also been internally displaced within the country, and it is expected that the number of war refugees will reach over 4 million.

Simultaneously, the Polish government announced that more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have entered the country due to Russia’s military invasion.

The Office of the Prime Minister of Poland also announced through a tweet that a train has been allocated to assist Ukrainian refugees, which will travel from the Polish border city of Przemyśl toward the city of Lviv in western Ukraine.

The statement says that the train will also provide initial medical aid for the wounded.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry also stated that it has launched a dedicated hotline to help those who have lost contact with relatives or are searching for them during the Russian attack.

The statement says that this hotline will assist families whose relatives have been killed in the war or taken into captivity by Russian forces. Through this dedicated hotline, Ukrainians can obtain information about the status of their acquaintances and family members, or leave messages for those who have gone missing or cannot be reached.

Russia’s widespread attacks on Ukrainian territory began Thursday morning. In response to the Russian invasion, the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Canada have imposed sanctions against the country.
