Unprecedented Recession in Iran’s Meat Market; Prices ‘Do Not Align with People’s Purchasing Power’

The head of Iran’s Livestock Supply Council reported an “unprecedented recession” in Iran’s meat market during the first week of Esfand.

As Mansoor Pourian reported, due to increased supply and decreased demand, resulting in lower meat prices, “the first week of Esfand passed without demand and in an unprecedented recession.”

He added that demand for meat purchases in Iran has experienced a “significant” decline in conditions where “in the final days of the year we have always witnessed an increase in demand for meat purchases.”

The head of Iran’s Livestock Supply Council, regarding the cause of this record, said: “Either we do not have wealthy consumers, or prices do not align with their purchasing power.”

This news is announced at a time when reports in recent weeks indicated an increase in red meat prices and reaching astronomical figures.

In recent months, the prices of many goods, particularly food items needed by people, have increased significantly, and reports indicate their removal from citizens’ tables.
