US deploys 900 troops to Middle East after attack on US base

The Pentagon announced the deployment of 900 more American troops to the Middle East to bolster air defenses after an Iraqi group attacked a US base.

Pentagon spokesman Gen. Patrick Ryder, while accusing Iranian proxy militias of being involved in the attacks, said: "Since October 17, American forces have been targeted in at least 12 attacks in Iraq and four in Syria using drones and missiles. American forces were also targeted in Iraq yesterday, October 26 (November 4), but this attack failed."

In his remarks, Ryder emphasized that the United States knows that these attacks are carried out by Iranian proxy militias, and for this reason, Washington holds Iran responsible for these groups.

The Islamic Resistance Group in Iraq announced in a statement on Thursday, October 26, that it had targeted the Al-Shaddadi base, where American forces are stationed, with a barrage of missiles that directly hit its targets. After the statement was released, Agence France-Presse reported that the attacks took place in Iraqi Kurdistan, causing minor damage to infrastructure but no casualties.

After Hamas began its attacks on Israel on October 7, the United States increased its military readiness and the number of air defense systems in the Middle East, following increased threats from Iranian proxies in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Lebanon's Hezbollah has also repeatedly threatened to go to war with Israel if necessary.

After Hamas began its attacks on Israel, the leader of Yemen's Houthi movement announced that he would launch drones and missiles if American forces intervened in the Gaza war.

The Pentagon reiterated that, despite the fact that the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" has not declared itself affiliated with a specific government, we know that Iran is behind the perpetrators of these attacks.
