Second day of refinery workers' strike in Tehran

Workers at Tehran's Tondoyan Oil Refinery's overhaul department continued their strike and rally for the second day on Tuesday.

According to the Coordination Council for Contract Oil Workers' Protests, they are protesting increased working hours and low wages.

In recent days, strikes have been held in some of Iran's oil regions. A strike by scaffolding workers at more than 20 contract companies in these regions is among the strikes that have begun in recent days.

Drivers and workers of the Western Oil and Gas Exploitation Company also went on strike on Monday in the two oil regions of Aban and Paydar and gathered at the company's location in Dehloran.

This company has not paid drivers' wages for 5 months and workers' wages for 3 months.

Social Security retirees also gathered in the city of Ahvaz on Tuesday, demanding the cancellation of the government's decision to increase the salaries of those receiving non-minimum salaries by 10 percent.

They chanted, among other things: "Where is this justice/Its hands are in the pockets of the people."

On June 5, the government of Ebrahim Raisi issued a circular according to which the salaries of non-minimum social security pensioners will increase by 10 percent.

Since then, social security retirees have held daily protest rallies in various cities.

They are demanding the implementation of the Supreme Labor Council's resolution on a 38% increase in wages for those earning less than the minimum wage.

Previously, the Board for Reviewing and Conforming Government Approvals with Laws in the Parliament had declared this resolution invalid, but the Government Information Council and the Head of the Planning and Budget Organization opposed it.
