The endless suffering of political prisoners' families; the suicide of a prisoner's father and the protest of Narges Mohammadi's father against the abuse of his daughter in prison

The father of Amir Hossein Moradi, one of the detainees from the November 2019 protests who was sentenced to death, committed suicide due to increasing pressure on the family of this political prisoner.

According to news published on social media on Monday, October 28, the lifeless body of the father of Amir Hossein Moradi, a political prisoner sentenced to death, was found in the basement of the Moradi family's residential home. It is said that he committed suicide due to increasing pressure on the family of the political prisoner to remain silent regarding the status of their children's case.

Babak Paknia, one of the lawyers in the case of Amir Hossein Moradi, Saeed Tamjidi, and Mohammad Rajabi, three young men sentenced to death, confirmed the news on his Twitter page and announced: "Unfortunately, Amir Hossein Moradi's father committed suicide."

Amir Hossein Moradi is one of three young protesters in November 2019 whose death sentences were previously upheld by the Supreme Court, a verdict that sparked strong reactions on social media, with people making the hashtag "Don't execute" a global trend.

Even the President of the United States reacted on Twitter on July 15 to the death sentences handed down to these three young protesters in Iran, saying: "Three people in Iran have been sentenced to death for participating in demonstrations. Their execution is expected at any moment. The execution of these three sends a deplorable message to the world and should not be done. #Don'tExecute"

Previously, Mr. Paknia had announced on his Twitter page regarding the latest status of the case of these three young men sentenced to death that on Monday, September 14, he had submitted his final defense bill regarding their case to the office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The news of the confirmation of the death sentence of these three young protesters in Iran has been published while to date none of the family members of Amirhossein Moradi, Saeed Tamjidi, and Mohammad Rajabi have spoken about the status of their case and have remained silent due to pressure from security forces.

On the other hand, Karim Mohammadi, the father of Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist imprisoned in Iran who is serving her sentence in Zanjan Central Prison, published a letter of grievance on Monday, October 29, calling on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to stop harassing Ms. Mohammadi.

Referring to the beating of this imprisoned human rights activist during his transfer from Evin Prison to Zanjan Prison, Mr. Mohammadi says: "When I saw the bruises on his body in the meeting room, I leaned on my cane and called out to my God three times."

The father of the imprisoned human rights activist continues, "This is what I say to the government: You may put my daughter's body in a cage, but you cannot chain her soul and weaken her ideals. Stop harassing my daughter. Of course, I am patient with my daughter's suffering in prison, but I protest and pray for her well-being."

Narges Mohammadi, vice president and spokesperson for the Center for Human Rights Defenders and a imprisoned civil activist, who has been in prison since mid-May 2015, was recently transferred from Evin Prison to Zanjan Prison after being beaten after a sit-in with 7 other female prisoners protesting the November massacre. She is currently facing new charges in two separate cases.

The US State Department has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of protesters, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by the ruling regime in that country.
