Car accident kills two Iranian asylum seekers in Greece

Mohsen Ahmadi and Rozgar Ghorbani, two Iranian refugees, were killed in a car accident in Greece.

According to the Human Rights Organization Hengaw, the accident occurred on the morning of Saturday, June 5, in the city of Kavala, Greece, and four people were killed and four others were injured when a vehicle carrying refugees overturned, two of whom were Iranians.

In this accident, Logman Ahmadi, Mohsen Ahmadi's brother, was also injured, and no report has been released on the identities of the other people.

The cause of the accident was reported to be a police pursuit of a vehicle carrying refugees and the vehicle overturning due to high speed.

In another traffic accident in the Zante region of Greece that occurred on Saturday, a car carrying six refugees crashed due to high speed after being chased by police, leaving three of the refugees injured and hospitalized.

The identities of these people have not been announced, but Greek police say that in addition to these six people, they managed to arrest 18 other refugees on Saturday, as well as 7 people who helped these refugees.

Greece is one of the most important routes for refugees who intend to reach European countries from Türkiye with the help of human smugglers.

Greek government authorities have taken increasingly stringent measures in recent months to control and close borders, and in some cases turn back boats carrying refugees to sea.
