Senior US government official: Israel was behind Fakhrizadeh's murder

A senior US administration official says the killing of a top Iranian missile and nuclear expert was the work of Israel. He did not say whether the Trump administration was aware of or supported the action.

A US government official, in an interview with CNN on Wednesday, December 2, while referring to the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh by Israel, added that the Israelis have in the past informed the US government of their objectives before carrying out their covert operations. He did not say whether the same information was provided in this case.

The senior official in US President Donald Trump's administration, whose name CNN did not reveal, said that nuclear expert Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has long been a target of the Israelis.

According to this official, the level of Iranian threat to the United States in the region has not increased since the assassination attempt, as Iranian officials hold Israel responsible for the killing of this individual.

However, he adds, the United States believes that the Iranians have not yet retaliated for the killing of General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, and this is something that US intelligence services are closely monitoring.
