Civil activist Neda Naji sentenced to 66 months in prison

Neda Naji, a women's rights activist and civil rights activist imprisoned in Iran, was sentenced to 5 years and six months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.
The Telegram channel of the Free Workers Union reported on Wednesday, December 4, that this imprisoned civil activist was sentenced to a total of 5 years and six months in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Moghiseh, on charges such as "insulting government officials" and "gathering and colluding."
According to this report, Neda Naji has been sentenced to six months in prison for the charge of "insulting government officials" and to five years in prison for the charge of "assembly and collusion." According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which allows for the accumulation of sentences, only five years of this sentence will be enforceable.
This women's rights activist was arrested by security agents on International Labor Day (May 1) and is the only Labor Day detainee who remains in custody. According to the Free Workers Union, requests to convert her arrest warrant to bail have been repeatedly opposed.
Neda Naji, who was initially transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, was transferred to Ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence in Evin Prison for further investigation just a few days after her arrest. A few weeks later, she was transferred again to Qarchak Prison after completing her interrogation period. According to available information, she has been the target of attacks in this prison several times.
Earlier this month, coinciding with Neda Naji's birthday, Amnesty International launched an online campaign calling on the Islamic Republic's judicial authorities to release this prisoner unconditionally.
The US State Department criticized the arrests of Iranian labor activists following the arrests on International Labor Day in Iran.
The US State Department has said that the Islamic Republic regime could have paid the salaries of workers in Iran with the money it has spent in Syria.
