Corona in Iran – The number of Corona victims approached 18,000; Shortage of ICU beds in hospitals

While the number of coronavirus victims in Iran has approached 18,000, reports indicate that medical centers are facing a shortage of ICU beds.

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health said on Wednesday, August 6, that 185 coronavirus patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the virus to 17,802. He also said that 2,697 new cases of coronavirus were registered during this period, bringing the total number of infected people to 317,483.

The announcement of these statistics by the Islamic Republic, like the statistics from China and Russia, is highly questionable, and the World Health Organization and even the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly have announced that the actual number of infections and deaths is many times higher than the official figures in Iran.

Shortage of ICU beds in Iran and deaths of 150 medical staff in Tehran during the Corona crisis

According to Sima Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, 4,129 patients are under intensive care. Meanwhile, Alireza Salimi, Deputy Director of Education and Research at the Iranian Medical System Organization, reported a "shortage of ICU beds in the country" and added that the number of critically ill patients requiring ICU has increased.

Salimi also announced the number of coronavirus infections among the medical community in Iran as "very high," saying that in Tehran alone, more than 6,000 medical staff have been infected with the virus and 150 have lost their lives.

Also, the provinces of Mazandaran, Tehran, Golestan, North Khorasan, Ardabil, Isfahan, Alborz, Khorasan Razavi, Kerman, Semnan, East Azerbaijan, Markazi, Yazd, and Gilan are in red status.

But in recent months, the performance of Hassan Rouhani's government in dealing with the coronavirus has faced a lot of criticism. On the other hand, the broadcasting of programs featuring non-experts who make unprincipled and unprofessional statements about the virus on Iranian state television has also been marginalized many times. Among them, Iranian actress Afsaneh Baygan's statements about the coronavirus in a live television program have attracted a lot of criticism on social networks.
