EU sanctions Iranian intelligence agency for 'plotting terror'

The European Union is sanctioning an Iranian intelligence agency for “planning terror” on its territory. Denmark had accused Iran’s intelligence service of planning to kill opponents of the Islamic State on its soil.

European Union countries have agreed to impose sanctions on an Iranian intelligence agency that they say has been working to carry out terrorist acts within the bloc's territory.

Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsson announced the news on his Twitter account, calling it "an important day for Europe" and "a strong message from the European Union" to let Iran know that "we will not tolerate such behavior."

"Designing Terror"

Last October, the Danish Foreign Ministry asked the European Union to impose new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

According to the Danish security service, a Norwegian of Iranian descent, on a mission from an Iranian intelligence agency, intended to take action against the leader of the "Ahwaz Liberation Movement", but was arrested by Danish police in September.

According to Finn Bork Andersen, head of the Danish Security Service, the Norwegian and Swedish security services have assisted the agency in gathering information.

According to Danish police, the arrested person took photos of members of the "Ahwaz Liberation Movement" group who are living in Denmark as political refugees.

After his arrest, he denied the charge of a terrorist act, and the Iranian Foreign Ministry also denied any involvement in the incident, describing it as "an attempt by enemies to destroy Iran's relations with Europe at this sensitive time."
