An armed attacker attacked the Iranian Consular Services Office in Washington

Reports indicate that an armed individual entered the Consular Services Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Washington on the morning of Wednesday, May 25, and "intentionally caused a disturbance" and was arrested by police.
The state-run IRNA news agency, citing eyewitnesses, said in a report that the attacker entered the building around 10:30 a.m. local time and, chanting slogans against the Islamic Republic, attacked an employee. The attacker was taken to the hospital.
The report says that following the incident, the Iranian consular services office has been closed, and police are present at the office to investigate, and the streets surrounding the location have been blocked.
The Iranian Consular Services Office in Washington only provides consular services related to visas and passports.
The local news section of the Washington Post newspaper also mentioned on its website the news of "an attacker attacking a consular office in northwest Washington," but did not name the Iranian consular services office.
The Washington Post reported, citing a statement from the secret police, that after receiving news of the attack at 10:30 a.m. local time, they responded quickly and went to the scene.
The secret police said no shots were fired during the attack, but one gunman was arrested. The report also said that nearby streets were blocked for two hours.
The Washington Post reports that, in addition to the Iranian consular services office, the Mexican and Pakistani consular services offices are also located at the scene of the incident.
The newspaper contacted the Mexican embassy to confirm the report, which said there had been no attack on its consular office. The Washington Post said officials from Iran and Pakistan were not available to confirm the report.
The US Secret Service told the Washington Post in a statement that more details about the attacker will be released in the coming hours.
