Author of ‘Arianpur Progressive Dictionary’ Series Passes Away

Manouchehr Arianpur Kashani, a lexicographer, translator, and author of the Arianpur bilingual dictionary, has passed away in America.
According to ISNA news agency, Mr. Arianpur passed away on Monday, December 27 (6 Dey) at the age of 92.
A native of Kashan and a graduate of American universities, he founded the “School of Advanced Translation” in 1969 (1348 in the Iranian calendar). In the 1970s, he began compiling dictionaries that have been updated multiple times over the past five decades.
The Arianpur Progressive Dictionary series comprises a seven-volume English-to-Persian dictionary, a four-volume Persian-to-English dictionary, a two-volume comprehensive edition, and a one-volume comprehensive edition.
He was also the author of books on English grammar and writing conventions, a large single-volume Persian-to-English dictionary, Persian words in the English language, a dictionary of Indo-European roots in the Persian language, English translation of “Iran’s National Anthems,” and others.
According to ISNA, in 1999 (1378 in the Iranian calendar), Manouchehr Arianpur donated all the inherited assets of the Arianpur Kashani family to the University of Kashan. Iran’s Book News Agency, IBNA, reports that the value of these assets, which included several residential units, gardens, land, and a higher education center, was estimated at over 10 billion tomans at that time.
He also transferred the copyright of his books to the university after his death.
Mr. Arianpur taught at universities in America after completing his studies.
