Child Marriage; 14-Year-Old Girl’s Marriage Following Escape from Father’s Demands

A 14-year-old teenage girl in Tehran formally and legally married an approximately 18-year-old boy after fleeing her home when her father forced her to marry another man.

According to Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, a 14-year-old teenage girl in Tehran formally and legally entered into marriage with an approximately 18-year-old boy.

Based on this report, on Wednesday, the 4th of Farvardin 1400, a father went to the prosecutor’s office of district 27 in Tehran to report the disappearance of his 14-year-old daughter. Following this, a team of officers from the 11th bureau was deployed at the order of the prosecutor.

Detectives initially discovered that the teenage girl had been in contact with a boy around 18 years old for some time.

Officers at this stage realized that the teenage boy had also left his home on the same day the girl disappeared and had not returned.

The boy’s father stated: “My son married a teenage girl some time ago and they ran away together, but I promise I will bring them back home.”

During the course of police investigations, officers found the boy and girl and brought them to Tehran’s criminal affairs prosecutor’s office.

In her statement to the prosecutor, the teenage girl said: Some time ago, I realized that after my mother’s death, my father intended to marry a young woman, and in return, I would have to marry one of that young woman’s family members. But I was interested in another boy and was not willing to return home.

She added: I ran away from home with the boy I was interested in and formally entered into marriage with him.

According to this report, since no kidnapping occurred in this case, the case was closed at the order of prosecutor Sohrab.
