Forced Marriage; Suicide of a Young Woman in Bouyerahmad

On Thursday, the 28th of Esfand, a 20-year-old woman in Bouyerahmad city, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, took her own life with a hunting rifle after opposing a forced marriage.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network, on Thursday, the 28th of Esfand 1399, a 20-year-old woman in Bouyerahmad city, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, committed suicide with a hunting rifle after opposing a forced marriage.
The identity of this citizen has been confirmed by Hrana as “Sahar Fakhri, 20 years old, from the village of Chin, under the jurisdiction of Ludab district in Bouyerahmad city, located in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.”
According to an informed source, Ms. Fakhri, in opposition to a forced marriage with her cousin that had been arranged for her, took her own life with a hunting rifle when she was alone at home.
Previously, Mohammad Nourouzi-nia, the head of education in Dishmok, one of the cities with high rates of women’s suicide in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, had pointed out that the rate of self-immolation among women in the region is high, citing “forced marriages” as one of the most important reasons for girls’ self-immolation in this region.
