Former Football Federation Chief’s 667 Million Toman Salary

Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claims to have obtained documents showing that Shahabeddin Azizi Khatam received over 55 million tomans in monthly salary during his one-year tenure as head of the Football Federation, as well as over 300 million tomans in bonuses for the national team’s World Cup qualification.

Tasnim wrote: “A notable point in this document is its notes section. This section states that the payment of foreign currency expenses for trips abroad has not been included in this table because the relevant expense documents are with the Court of Accounts, and it remains to be seen what the extent of Shahabeddin Azizi Khatam’s foreign currency receipts were.”

Voice of America cannot independently verify this report.

It is worth noting that Shahabeddin Azizi Khatam was removed from his position as head of the Football Federation on February 17 of last year by a vote of eight members of the federation’s board of directors.

Azizi Khatam served as Football Federation chief for less than one year and became the first and only removed head of Iran’s Football Federation.

The main reason for Azizi Khatam’s removal was financial non-transparency, embezzlement of resources, and misuse of government financial assistance.
