Jewish and Iranian Organizations in Australia Call for Expulsion of Iran’s Ambassador

Jewish and Iranian organizations have called for the expulsion of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador from Australia.

Ahmad Sadeghi, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Australia, posted a message on his X account on Saturday, August 3, in which he addressed Israelis as a “Zionist plague” and called for the destruction of Israel by 2027.

The Jewish Community Council of Australia, along with four other organizations, responded to Ahmad Sadeghi’s remarks by sending a letter on Wednesday, August 7, to Anthony Albanese, Australia’s Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, demanding his expulsion from the country.

The organization noted that Ahmad Sadeghi’s statements constitute hate-mongering against the State of Israel and the immediate destruction of the world’s only Jewish state. They called on the Australian government to strongly condemn the promotion of hatred and violence, which they described as completely unacceptable.

The authors and signatories of the letter have repeatedly warned the Albanese government since 2022 and called for action against Islamic Republic officials. In their new letter, they emphasized this point further, writing: “Unfortunately, it appears that the Australian government prefers to tolerate the spread of hatred, violence, and racism by the political representative of the Islamic Republic. The hateful and violent rhetoric of the Islamic Republic’s ambassador should have no place in Australia.”
