Plan to Launch a Doctoral Program in Commanding Right and Forbidding Wrong

The head of the headquarters for reviving the concept of commanding right and forbidding wrong announced a plan to launch a doctoral program in commanding right and forbidding wrong.

“Mehran Samadi” regarding the plan to launch a doctoral program in commanding right and forbidding wrong said: “A field of study is planned to be established at the master’s and doctoral levels under the title of commanding right and forbidding wrong, and educational content will be produced in this field.”

A webinar was held this week in virtual format titled “Explaining New Approaches of the Headquarters for Commanding Right and Forbidding Wrong” by Islamic Azad University, Khorasan Razavi branch. In that session, Mehran Samadi stated: “Specialized and interested faculty members can cooperate with the national headquarters for commanding right and forbidding wrong in producing educational textbooks for this field. When the discussion of these two obligations—commanding right and forbidding wrong—is brought up, minds immediately turn to the matter of hijab and chastity, whereas the scope of these two obligations is far broader than hijab and chastity.”

He further added regarding the necessity of knowledge for those who wish to engage in commanding right and forbidding wrong: “Faculty members have knowledge in their specialized fields; similarly, anyone who wants to engage in commanding right and forbidding wrong must have knowledge. For example, an economics PhD can intervene in areas of hoarding, price gouging, and banking practices, and an environmental science PhD can intervene in areas of forest destruction, mountain destruction, mining, urban development, and municipal wastewater issues, and a civil engineering PhD can intervene in construction matters and oversights, negligence, and abuses where they can command the authorities to what is right or forbid them from what is wrong.

The philosophy of forming these advocacy groups by faculty members of Islamic Azad University is to establish advocacy groups and guidance patrols to hold authorities accountable. That is, they come to demand accountability from authorities and remind them of oversights, failures to act, and shortcomings. In the first step, a memorandum of understanding must be signed between Islamic Azad University and the headquarters for commanding right and forbidding wrong in Khorasan Razavi, whose role would be to support and assist the headquarters and command center in scientific, intellectual, legal, and judicial support matters.”

A video has also been circulated on social media showing the violent arrest of a woman opposed to mandatory hijab by two female guidance patrol officers, which has received widespread attention on social networks. In the video, it is evident that due to the woman’s resistance, her clothing tears, and then one of the officers wraps a sheet-like cloth around the woman and forcibly drags her into a van. The presence of this sheet in the guidance patrol vehicle and the officers’ use of it has sparked many reactions, with social media users writing: “This is a practical unit of that same plan to launch a doctoral program in commanding right and forbidding wrong, but what reason or purpose could such a large sheet, which resembles a blanket, in a guidance patrol vehicle possibly have?!”

The head of the headquarters for reviving the concept of commanding right and forbidding wrong said: “After signing the memorandum of understanding, participants will take part in training courses on commanding right and forbidding wrong so that they acquire complete scientific, intellectual, and knowledge-based expertise and become familiar with the etiquette, propriety, stages, and manner of performing these two obligations, because sometimes individuals who lack expertise and understanding in these fields enter with the intention of commanding right and forbidding wrong, but in practice commit wrong. The next task is collecting doubts and concerns, because students will certainly have questions and faculty members will have inquiries, and we wish for these questions to be collected so that we can present them to Mr. Golpaygani, the secretary and deputy head of the national headquarters for commanding right and forbidding wrong, and he can respond to these concerns.”
