Some Political Prisoners in Evin Prison Infected with Corona

Some political prisoners in Evin Prison have been infected with coronavirus.

According to Hrana news agency, Jafar Azimzadeh, secretary of the board of directors of the Independent Workers Union, Ismail Abbasi, member of the Teachers’ Association, Amir Sallar Davari, lawyer, Majid Azarpi, and Mohammad Davudi are among the prisoners who have been infected with coronavirus.

Munir Abbasi, husband of Ismail Abbasi, said in this regard that these individuals “have been transferred to Evin Prison’s health department and are all being held in one room.”

Amnesty International on Friday morning, August 1st, by publishing some correspondence between Iran’s Prison Organization and the Ministry of Health officials, revealed that the Islamic Republic government has taken no action in sending equipment and medical supplies to the country’s prisons to control the coronavirus disease.

In recent months, multiple requests have been made by international human rights organizations for the release of political prisoners during the coronavirus pandemic, which have been largely ignored by Iran’s judiciary.
