Students in Various Iranian Cities Held Protests Against In-Person Examinations

A number of Iranian students in various cities, including Yazd, Tehran, Qazvin, and Zanjan, held protest gatherings in front of education ministry buildings in their respective cities to demand attention to their demands.

Based on videos published on social media, students, after one year of virtual education, protested against holding their final examinations in person despite the spread of the coronavirus by chanting slogans such as “We don’t want in-person exams, we don’t want” and “In-person exams can’t happen with corona” in recent days.

Canceling in-person examinations and holding final exams virtually are among the demands of these protesting students.

According to published videos, students in Zanjan and Bojnord held gatherings on Wednesday, the 15th of Ordibehesht, chanting slogans such as “We don’t want in-person exams, we don’t want.”

Students from Semnan also demanded the cancellation of in-person examinations during the spread of coronavirus in Iran.

Yesterday, students from Yazd and Shahrekord also gathered to demand the cancellation of in-person examinations.

According to Iran’s Ministry of Health statistics, from the 13th to the 14th of Ordibehesht, 20,150 new coronavirus cases were identified and 344 patients died, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 73,219 people.

Many doubt the accuracy of official statistics, and even the Islamic Consultative Assembly’s Research Center has stated that the actual number of infections and deaths is several times higher than the official figures.
