Temporary Suspension from Studies for Zahra Jafari, University of Tehran Student

Zahra Jafari, a graduate student at the University of Tehran, has been sentenced to two and a half years of suspension from studies.

According to published reports, Zahra Jafari has been sentenced to temporary suspension from studies. This conviction was issued by the University of Tehran’s Disciplinary Review Committee, which found her guilty of charges including threats, insults, profanity, disrespect, slander, defamation and spreading falsehoods, insulting Islamic and national symbols and sanctities, recognized religions of the country, or committing acts against the Islamic Republic system. She was sentenced to deprivation from studies for two and a half years, with accumulated time counted.

Zahra Jafari is a graduate student in the Social Welfare Planning program at the University of Tehran and editor-in-chief of the student publication “Zhina.” She was previously arrested during nationwide protests in 1401 (2022) in Tehran.

The verdict against her now takes effect from the second semester of the academic year 1402-1403 and will continue until the end of the second semester.

So far, many students who have openly voiced their opposition to the system have been barred from studies. In many cases, even university professors and many teachers have been dismissed. The Islamic Republic system arrests, tortures, or deprives any citizen who opposes the system of their civil rights under flimsy pretexts and false charges. System officials, contrary to their commitments regarding human rights, have violated them and for years have committed numerous crimes against the Iranian people, and to ensure their survival, they continue to perpetrate these crimes and suppress the people.
