Political prisoners strike in response to women being stripped naked in Greater Tehran Prison
Political prisoners went on strike in response to women being stripped naked for body searches in Greater Tehran Prison.
Mohammad Nourizadeh, a director, screenwriter, journalist, and political activist who is imprisoned in the Greater Tehran Prison, announced the strike of political prisoners in protest against the shameless stripping of women for physical examination. He said: “The officials of the Greater Tehran Prison themselves are the ones importing all kinds of drugs, but they look at our women and children with suspicion and shamelessly strip women and subject them to physical examination.”
On Thursday, July 16, he reported on the gathering of political prisoners by releasing an audio file from the Greater Tehran Prison. In the audio file, he stated that female prisoners were subjected to a shameless and completely naked body search on Wednesday before meeting their families. He also added that the strikers were prepared to confront the prison guards: "This movement is a collective movement and everyone is nervous about this shameless behavior, which is defined as sexual assault."
He accused prison officials of bringing various drugs into the prison and described their behavior as an example of “sexual assault.” In the audio file, Nourizadeh also mentioned a 13-year-old prisoner who cried nonstop when meeting with her father due to the shock of being stripped naked by investigators.
"Payam Bastani" is another political prisoner imprisoned in Greater Tehran Prison who, before Mohammad Nourizadeh, had released an audio file about the officers' abusive treatment of prisoners' families during visits and the subject of stripping female prisoners naked.
The shameless stripping of imprisoned men and women is just one of the ways the Islamic Republic tortures and oppresses prisoners. In some cases, prison officials have also reported sexual assaults on prisoners to extract forced confessions, many of which remain secret and undisclosed.
