Reuters: Iranian cargo ship arrives at Venezuelan port

Reuters reported that an Iranian ship had arrived at a port in Venezuela, but it was not yet clear what its cargo was. According to data from a shipping tracking agency, the ship left Iran in late November.

Reuters, based on data from shipping tracking firm Refinitiv Eikon, reported the arrival of an Iranian cargo ship at the port of La Guaira in Venezuela on Thursday, January 7, a move that is seen as a continuation of trade relations between Iran and Venezuela in the face of US sanctions.

Iran is trying to help Venezuela, which is struggling with fuel shortages, aging refineries and U.S. sanctions, by delivering gasoline to the country. The Islamic Republic has also helped the government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela by sending food by ship.

Reuters, citing data from Refinitiv Eikon, wrote that the cargo ship "Golsan" belonging to the "Maskher Darya" shipping company left Iran in late November.

According to this news agency, it is currently unknown what the cargo ship is carrying.

The Golsan ship had been carrying food supplies to Venezuela in July for delivery to Iran's first supermarket. The ship later returned to Iran with a cargo of aluminum.

Iran and Venezuela, both OPEC members, expanded their trade relations last year as US sanctions intensified. Not only do both countries have difficulty selling oil due to US sanctions, but many insurance companies, tankers, and marine service companies avoid working with them because of these sanctions.
