Pope Francis dedicates Holy Thursday to imprisoned women

Pope Francis washed and kissed the feet of women prisoners in Rome during the Holy Thursday mass before Easter.

Pope Francis visited a prison in the northeastern suburbs of the capital on Thursday, March 28, having visited it in 2015, but for the first time he dedicated the holy mass to women only. In the traditional ceremony, Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, washed and dried the prisoners' feet, and in some cases even kissed them.

Holy Thursday commemorates the day when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper, a symbol of the need for leaders to be servants.
