Canadian report: Islamic Republic did not conduct proper investigation into downing of Ukrainian plane

A 79-page report by an independent Canadian institution says that Iran did not conduct a proper and serious investigation into the downing of the Ukrainian plane and left many questions unanswered.

According to Reuters, the report shows Canada's frustration with Iran's investigation into the downing of a Ukrainian airliner by IRGC missiles near Tehran.

176 people, including citizens of Iran, Canada, Ukraine, Britain, and Afghanistan, were killed in the incident.

After several days of secrecy, the Revolutionary Guards finally announced that the plane had been mistakenly and accidentally targeted following the publication of evidence of a missile hitting the plane by some countries.

"Many key points about the downing of the Ukrainian plane still remain unclear," says former Canadian cabinet minister Raf Goodale, who is now responsible for helping the families of the victims and how to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He has said that Iran is responsible and has not yet conducted an independent and transparent investigation into the downing of the plane, leaving very important questions unanswered.

Last month, a UN aviation agency called on Iran to speed up its investigation into the incident. Late last month, Ukraine accused Iran of delaying transparency into the incident.

Mr. Goodale says in his report that Iran must explain how the country's radar system perceived a passenger plane as a threat, why the country's skies were kept open, and which IRGC official gave the order to fire?

The Ukrainian plane, flight number PS 752, was shot down by the Revolutionary Guards' air defenses on December 8 last year, killing all 176 people on board.

The governments of Canada and Ukraine consistently say that Iran has not fulfilled its promises regarding full accountability and is not cooperating to uncover the "truth."

There have also been numerous reports of threats to silence against the survivors of the Ukrainian plane crash victims and arrests and prison sentences for those protesting the incident in Iran.
