Iran's position in the business environment falls again; ranks 128th among 190 countries

In a report published on Wednesday, November 29, the World Bank addressed the state of the business environment in countries around the world during 2018.
According to this report, Iran ranks 128th out of 190 countries in the world in terms of ease of doing business this year.
Iran's ranking last year was 124th, down four places and seven places from 2016 and 2015, respectively. Thus, Iran's ranking has fallen for the fourth consecutive year.
According to the World Bank, New Zealand, Singapore and Denmark have the best business conditions in the world this year, while Somalia, Eritrea and Venezuela are at the bottom of the table. Last year, the same countries were in the best and worst positions, in the same order.
The World Bank considers ten components to classify countries according to their "business environment": starting a business, obtaining construction permits, access to electricity, registering property, obtaining credit, protecting minority shareholders, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, and bankruptcy.
The report adds that data shows that progress in the business environment is not dependent on the background and conditions of countries, and that any government that is willing can make progress in this regard.
The World Bank says India and China have made significant strides in this area. But there have been smaller countries with very weak economies that have taken significant steps in this area. Djibouti is among the six countries that have implemented the most reforms in the business environment this year.
The most economic reforms in terms of improving the work environment have been carried out in Afghanistan, Djibouti, China, Azerbaijan, India, Togo, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Turkey, and Rwanda, respectively.
Of course, some of these countries still have a long way to go to achieve better rankings in the global business environment table. For example, Afghanistan is currently ranked 167th, and has one of the worst business conditions in the country.
The World Bank says that no economy can progress without healthy private sector development.
According to the report, from June 2017 to May this year, 314 major reforms were recorded in the global business environment, and the situation of 128 countries improved in this regard.
