A Woman Elected as Head of Iran Gymnastics Federation

«Zahra Inche Dargahi» was elected as the head of the Iran Gymnastics Federation by the federation’s electoral assembly.

Ms. «Inche Dargahi» received the most votes among four candidates for the federation’s presidency in an election held on Monday, July 19th, with the participation of 44 assembly members.

According to Iranian domestic news agencies, Ms. Inche Dargahi was elected as the head of the Gymnastics Federation with 24 votes in this poll, which was held in the presence of the deputy minister of sports and the representative of the National Olympic Committee, while the second-place candidate received half of her votes.

Prior to Ms. Dargahi, women had also been elected as heads of the Skating and Polo federations.

Ms. Inche Dargahi was a national champion for 11 years and a coach for the women’s national team for 10 years. She was selected as the first female Iranian referee by the technical committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) for international competitions. She also served as the caretaker of the Gymnastics Federation for one year in 2015.

In 2004, after being removed from the position of head of the Women’s Association of the Gymnastics Federation, she resigned from her position as vice president of the federation in protest of the federation’s policies.

She holds a doctorate in physical medicine and rehabilitation and served for a period as the head of the medical committee of the Gymnastics Federation.
