Arrest of “Nazila Maroufian,” Journalist from Saghez

“Nazila Maroufian,” a student and journalist from Saghez, was arrested after being summoned to Evin Courthouse.
Nazila Maroufian was arrested this Saturday morning, July 7th, by security forces after being summoned to Evin Courthouse in Tehran.
Ms. Maroufian announced in a tweet on her personal page on Tuesday, July 3rd, that the Ministry of Intelligence raided her home, and after confiscating her laptop, phone, and recordings, she was summoned to Evin Courthouse, Branch One, for Saturday.

She was arrested this Saturday morning, July 7th, by security forces after going to the relevant courthouse in Tehran, and the reason for her summons and arrest remains unclear to date.
Prior to her arrest, Nazila Maroufian was working as a journalist for Event 24. After an interview she conducted with Mahsa (Jina) Amini’s father in November 2022, she was arrested by security forces in Tehran and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. By Branch 16 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court under Judge Afshari, she was convicted of “propaganda activities against the system” and “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion” through the publication of an interview with Mahsa Amini’s father, and was sentenced to two years imprisonment, a fine of 15 million tomans, and a five-year travel ban from the country.
The reason for this journalist’s renewed arrest, having previously been tried for the charges brought against her and verdicts issued against her, remains unclear.
