Bereaved Mothers Gather Outside Hospital Where Imprisoned Dervish Behnam Mahjoubi is Hospitalized

Shortly after videos from the mother of Behnam Mahjoubi, one of the imprisoned Gonabadi dervishes in Iran whose story was previously covered by Voice of America, were released, several bereaved mothers and those who have lost loved ones in recent years gathered outside the hospital.

Nahid Shirpisheh, mother of Pouya Bakhtiari, one of those killed in the November 2019 protests and among these mothers, spoke to Voice of America on Tuesday evening after gathering outside the hospital about the latest condition of Behnam Mahjoubi: “I think he may be spending his final moments now, with the apparatus. Unfortunately, he is in a coma and very close to death.”

Ms. Shirpisheh told Voice of America that the mother of this political prisoner, currently hospitalized at Laqman Hospital, was barely able to visit her son today.

In addition to Ms. Shirpisheh, Sakina Ahmadi, mother of Ibrahim Ketabdar, another victim of the November 2019 protests; Shahrnaz Akmali, mother of Mostafa Karim Beigi, killed in the Green Movement protests; and Akram Noghabi, mother of Saeed Zeinali, who was arrested and disappeared in the university district in 1999, were present outside the hospital where imprisoned dervish Behnam Mahjoubi is hospitalized on Tuesday, the 28th of Bahman.
