Christian Democratic Party: Foreign Financial Aid to German Mosques Must Be Cut Off

Germany’s Christian Democratic Party has called for the passage of legislation to control the spread of Islam in Germany and Europe. According to this proposal, mosque imams, among others, must deliver their sermons and speeches in the German language.

According to CNN, Andreas Scheuer, secretary general of Germany’s Christian Democratic Party based in Bavaria, is seeking to draft legislation to establish a framework for teaching Islamic principles in Germany. Scheuer said that how religion is handled must be defined within a specific legal framework. In his view, the passage of an “Islam Law” would help Muslims integrate with German society.

Key Points of the Proposal

According to Scheuer’s proposal, mosque imams, among others, must receive training in Germany and sermons and lectures must be delivered in the German language. Furthermore, the content of speeches must be based on human values contained in Germany’s constitution.

The secretary general of Germany’s Christian Democratic Party said in an interview with the newspaper “Die Welt”: “Our approach to political Islam must be more critical and severe. Only then is integration of non-Germans into our society possible.” He said: “We cannot on one hand enforce the provisions of immigration laws and on the other hand turn a blind eye to propaganda taking place in mosques.”

Andreas Scheuer also proposes that financial aid from Turkey and Saudi Arabia be halted. He called the “export of extremist ideas and values to Germany” unacceptable. In his view, Islam as propagated in the West must be based on Europe’s enlightened values. Scheuer emphasized that “free and liberal Europe must regulate and promote its own Islam.”

The secretary general of Germany’s Christian Democratic Party also called for “punitive measures” against individuals who refuse to participate in government integration plans and programs. Earlier, Thomas Demesier, Germany’s interior minister, had said that the benefits and financial aid of refugees who refuse to accept German laws and regulations would be reduced.
