Dutch Justice Minister: A Terrorist Cell Has Been Dismantled

Dutch judicial authorities announced that police in the country have eliminated a terrorist cell. In this regard, 7 people have been arrested. These individuals were planning to attack a crowded event with machine guns and bombs.
Thursday evening, 27 September, the Rotterdam Prosecution announced that Dutch counter-terrorism police have arrested seven people in a raid operation on charges of planning a terrorist attack.
In this operation, 400 armed officers equipped with various weapons and a helicopter participated.
Hours later, Ferdinand Grappenhaus, Dutch Justice Minister, also confirmed this news and said: “A terrorist cell has been destroyed”.
According to Dutch judicial authorities, the arrested individuals, members of this “terrorist cell”, intended to attack a crowded event with suicide belts and Kalashnikovs. A car bomb was also prepared for this purpose.
Under Security Forces Supervision
The arrested individuals live in two areas: Arnhem, located in eastern Netherlands and Wiert, in the southeastern part of the country.
According to the Dutch Justice Ministry, the country’s security forces have been monitoring the activities of the arrested individuals since April of this year.
The main figure of this group is a 34-year-old Iraqi who was arrested and convicted in 2017 on charges of attempting to join ISIS in Iraq.
