Influenza Death Toll in Iran Reaches 106

The head of the Communicable Diseases Surveillance Department at the Ministry of Health announced 106 deaths from influenza since the beginning of the month of Mehr until now.

Hossein Arfaniyan said on Sunday, the first day of Dey month, that last week 3,354 people with respiratory diseases were hospitalized, of which 82 were diagnosed with influenza.

According to this official, seven people died from influenza last week.

The head of the Communicable Diseases Surveillance Department at the Ministry of Health added: all influenza-related deaths were among individuals who had underlying medical conditions, and if there was anyone without underlying conditions among them, the cause of death was delayed medical consultation, self-medication, and the use of cortisone drugs.

It was previously reported that more than 4,000 people with this disease have been hospitalized since the beginning of the month of Mehr until now.

Some media outlets had reported that according to follow-ups and statements by the Vice-Chairman of the Iranian Pharmacists Association, influenza vaccine faces “shortage” in different regions of the country, a matter that the Ministry of Health has denied.

The Ministry of Health also announced that the spread rate of influenza this year has been “very severe” compared to previous years.
