Iran and North Korea Cooperation in Intercontinental Missile Production

According to a report published by United Nations experts, the Islamic Republic and North Korea continued their missile cooperation in 2020. It is said that North Korea has assisted Iran in the production of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The United Nations report regarding the missile cooperation between the two countries of North Korea and Iran has been presented to the UN Security Council.

France’s news agency, which obtained this report, announced the publication of the report on Tuesday, February 9th (Bahman 21st), and addressed some of its details.

In this report, while enumerating extensive violations of Security Council resolutions by North Korea, the country’s cooperation with the Islamic Republic in the field of intercontinental ballistic missile production was also mentioned.

It is said that North Korea delivered sensitive components necessary for the production of ballistic missiles to Iran in 2020.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has denied any missile cooperation with North Korea in the field of intercontinental missile production.

On the other hand, it has been stated that North Korea has repeatedly violated Security Council resolutions in the development of its ballistic missile production program as well as its nuclear activities in the past calendar year.

The report also referred to North Korea’s violation of economic sanctions in the field of gasoline imports. According to North Korea’s oil sanctions, the country is only permitted to import 500,000 barrels of gasoline and petroleum products per year.

The United Nations report indicates that North Korea, during the period from January 1st to September 30th, 2020, imported more gasoline and diesel than the specified amount.

This is while Russia and China, which are considered supporters of North Korea, have claimed that North Korea’s gasoline and diesel imports are lower than the amount announced by the United States.
