Iranians Gather in Washington in Response to Suppression of Civil Protests in Iran

A group of Iranians residing in Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland gathered in front of the White House on Sunday, December 28, in response to peaceful protests in Isfahan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari and the violent suppression of protesters by the Islamic Republic’s security forces.
Dr. Ramesh Sepehrad, a supporter of the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran and one of the coordinators of this protest gathering, told a Voice of America reporter that the aim of the gathering is to show solidarity with the Iranian people and to make their voice heard at the White House. He further stated that the only way to free the Iranian people is through an uprising and the overthrow of the Islamic Republic.
Tara Shafiee, a supporter of the National Council of Resistance and the People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran, also explained the reason for holding the gathering in front of the White House as making the voice of protesters heard by White House officials, and believed that the Biden administration should adopt a clear policy toward the Islamic Republic.
Pahlavan Moslem Eskandar Filabi was another protester present at this gathering. In an interview with a Voice of America reporter about his goal for participating in this rally, he said that through this he is asking the world to save the Iranian people from the “hostage-taking” of the Islamic Republic.
